Our ability to serve our customers's expectations around product quality, service quality at a certain turnaround time is secret sauce for lifelong relationship with the end user of the product and service you are offering in the market. The capacity of our capable machines can deeply impact this relationship with our customers both positively and negatively (please sit tight for details below)

As we all work through our daily challenges at production floor, one problem seems to never fade away is a surprise that a machine has for us on a regular basis.

In my recent exploratory conversation with a Senior leader,Operations manager and General managers of a Manufacturing, Maintenance and Supply Chain business, along with practitioners from Future State Partners, it was discovered, the majority of production lines are running to 55-60 % percent of the designed capacity.

Even though the demand is there, the unplanned machine downtime took away the capacity along with other concerns (please take a look at the infographic below)

Given the fact that, there are variety of concerns around the reduced capacity, a little digging further took us to an insight that  most of the concerns from unplanned machine downtime are result of two major reasons (we would like to hear from you for more reasons that you are facing by calling us on 02 8311 8100 (24X7)

A) Ineffective and Inefficient planned maintenance

B) Inefficient planned ChangeOvers

This invited a quick question, Is there a better way to make planned maintenance effective along with Changeovers? If yes, who in the business had onus to handle this properly.

How to lead the way and create a best-in-class Planned Maintenance?

On further discovery with the CEO, Operations Managers, General Managers, it was explored that, there is huge opportunity of simplifying the planned maintenance such that planned maintenance is pro-active and efficient to complete all the planned machine lubrication , machine overhauls without ignoring effective operator or skilled technician task level training which can fetch longer term and repeatable outcomes.

All the concerns duirng planned maintenance are filled with variety of reasons resulting in it's ineffectiveness. Please check the infographic above and below this

In addition, there is definite need to assess the current line changeover frequency and the changeover itself such that the overall changeover has higher external tasks (Tasks conducted before and machine shuts downs or after the machine has started back up during planned line Change overs). As per our estimates

1) Planned Mantenance can be made fatser by atleast 80-120 % resulting in increases effectiveness

2) Line Change overs can be convereted into Lean Rapid change overs resulting in 60-80 % faster Change overs

The need is to continuously counter-balance this situation with Regular planned maintenance Assessments (Contact us by Clicking here or call us on 02 8311 8100 (24X7)) of your planned maintenance and chnage over etc. to answer "Where to accurateley start the journey of Improvements from"

One of the biggest challenges would be to come up with a cultural shift underpinned by accurate
change that is required to sustain any solution envisaged that stays longer, just like we did for this large Australian Manufacturing, Maintenance & Supply Chain and Logistics organisations resulting in their increased ability to serve more customers with the same resources
bringing up overall happiness amongst team members
